What brought you into IT?
Whilst working within Marketing at a previous role, it became evident that IT would continue to be an external force on all markets as well as a driving force within individual businesses and I wanted to be where the action was! I was lucky enough to land an interview with our soon-to-be EMEA President, Emma De Sousa, back when she was a UK Sales Manager and soon after joined the company as an Account Manager in the Corporate team.
How has your journey at Insight developed?
Early in my Insight journey, I wanted to emulate the success of my teammates and they were happy to mentor and advise me. During my time with Insight, I have been able raise my family and manage a good work-life balance. I have felt supported whenever I have looked to progress and the opportunity to develop and learn new things keeps the job fresh and continues to give me a new lease on life.
What would you say your values are?
I am mindful of doing the right thing and I believe that everyone should be treated fairly and as equals, so I am proud to work somewhere that is also open-minded and has "heart" as one of the company values. Stability is a big piece for me, I believe people should be able to work in a place that offers support and stability, in return for fair and honest work. Work-Life balance can be difficult to manage, but I make sure I prioritise making the most of the time I can with my family. Giving back to others and charity matters a lot to me, so I spend some of my free time supporting cancer charities wherever and however I can. I’m proud to work for a company that encourages us to take Volunteer days and support local charities through time and fundraising.
What is your favourite Insight memory?
I don’t know if I can narrow it down to one! We’ve had some fun days with Family Days and I was lucky enough to win a trip to Vegas, which was certainly a bucket list tick! In my first year just 9 months into the role, I received an email from the Director giving me positive feedback on my performance and which had resulted in a nomination to attend the President’s Club!
Where do you see yourself in 3 years?
I would like to continue to develop my peers to have a positive mindset and attitude towards development and understanding what they can achieve with a successful team. I would like to be a leader within a successful team that make a material difference in the business. I’m hugely invested in ensuring current and future Insight teammates are equipped and supported to be successful and continue to drive the business forward.
What do you think makes somewhere a great place to work?
The people and the culture. Having the right people that want to make it a better place to work, makes it somewhere you want to contribute to. I read the “4-hour working week” by Timothy Ferriss, which really hit home for me. He discusses effective time management and enjoying your job, turning work from a “must do” to a privilege to have.
What would you say to someone looking to join your team as an account manager?
I'm always on the lookout for hard-working and dynamic individuals looking to establish a career in one of the most exciting industries. If you get a sense of achievement every day by looking back on what you have accomplished, I'd been keen to introduce you to a like-minded group I'm proud to call my team!
Any last bits of advice or thoughts?
I've seen many friends move around the business and the globe with Insight.
I now have friends in Australia, New Zealand and the United States, all still working for Insight! There are so many opportunities within Insight, if you have the drive and ambition, the world is open to you. How many places do you get that opportunity?
