Technology has been a cornerstone for healthcare’s evolution, for some time. Yet the events of the last few years have accelerated its importance. Technology’s role in healthcare is now a careful balance of driving operational efficiencies, whilst providing improvements to patient care.
Operationally, trusts and bodies have been presented with the squeezing of their budgets, rising staff costs and escalating energy bills, which have inevitably then seen IT budgets reduced. But more is required from the budget, than ever before. IT leaders are being challenged with the need to do more, with less.
With technology users uniquely placed across so many different environments, IT teams across the healthcare industry need to find ways to effectively manage their device estate. Managing these needs a new way of thinking – a more effective way to manage the technology and reduce the burden on the IT teams of operationally managing each device. Microsoft 365 and Surface offer IT teams a cloud-based management system to deploy, manage and stay secure from anywhere.
So let’s consider how this works in practice. Windows Autopilot for example, enables IT professionals to automate each and every stage of the device lifecycle. This starts at the beginning of its ‘life’, when the device is first needed by the department. The device needs to be provisioned and configured. Instead of the IT professional taking the time to manually configure the device – this process is done with zero-touch, through the cloud. The device is up and running, ready to use, and effortlessly integrates with M365, all in an automated way. Then let’s consider how this would work for a device at the end of the lifecycle. If a device is for example lost, stolen, or in fact needs to be provisioned for a new employee, Intune would allow the IT team to completely wipe the device clean, straight from the cloud management portal. This of course wouldn’t only save time – but if the device was stolen, provides real security benefits, protecting against any potential breaches.
Housed within the Surface Management Portal, both Windows Autopilot and Intune give healthcare IT teams the ability to self-serve, manage and monitor Surface devices at scale. Seeing all devices through a single pane of glass view, in a way that just hasn’t been possible before.
